"The Good Old Days"

I hate living in interesting times
I want to go back to the good old days
When I didn't have to think about politics
When I didn't have to watch the news
When there was no news to watch

I hate the suffering
There didn't used to be this much suffering
Even just 4 months ago
When eggs were cheap and people cared for each other

When work was good and the police were kind
When my money wasn't being used to kill children
When I wasn't told I was wrong for being angry about the dead children

I want to go back
To 2024
The good old days
Before everything went to shit

We had a good run, didn't we?
Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, all the way back to the start
Sure, they weren't perfect
But at least they weren't waging wars in far away places for dishonest reasons
At least I was valued at work, and my dollar was strong
And I didn't have to worry that if I broke my leg it would bankrupt me
And people weren't being wrongly deported to countries they hadn't set foot in since they were three

Or maybe, just maybe
It was pretty bad?
Not as bad as this, I don't think.
I can't remember.
At least I didn't have to think about it back then
